Straw into gold- really?

I was made to spin straw into gold for some ungodly reason- why a king needs golden straw I have no idea. But three nights I was locked in his castle, each night with a bigger room of straw, and each night he said he'd chop off my head if I didn't spin it into gold.

And then he married me, and we had a daughter, and, well, everything's pretty much shit.

But I try to stay positive! I know a lot of people have had it a lot worse than me, and I try to keep perspective. I'm alive, my king loves me, my daughter is healthy, and now I own all the keys to every room in this castle so I can't be locked up again.

That's something, right?

Spinning straw into gold is a really handy trait, though. If I could do that, I would have had a lot easier time in my tower... I had to learn the language of birds so I could convince them to fly off and bring me thread for my weaving. Gold thread is so pretty...
